Professor Adam Skorek
– A Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers Canada

Dr. Skorek began his career in Electrical Engineering in Poland, his country of origin, at the Technical University of Bialystok where he received the Degree Engineer as well as a Master of Science Degree both in Electrical Engineering. Three years later he received his Doctor of Technical Sciences degree from the Warsaw Technical University. He returned to Bialystok as Assistant Professor and then went to Algeria as a visiting professor at the Institute of Telecommunications in Oran from whence he emigrated to Canada to establish himself at the University of Québec at Trois-Rivières.  He is now a Full Professor and Head of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at this university.

Dr Skorek’s somewhat unique expertise lies in the analysis of electro-thermal effects in electrical and electronic equipment, industrial processes and electronic components. More specifically he is the inventor of new numerical algorithms, including the use of parallel processor computers, for the analysis of the thermal properties of electrical devices and system. The practical importance of this work is illustrated by the number of manufacturers that have contracted with Dr Skorek and his team: including IBM Canada, Kinectrics Inc (preciously Ontario-Hydro), Technologies Inc., Aluminerie de Bécancour Inc., IREQ Institut de Recherche d’Hydro-Québec and ABB Asea Brown Boveri amongst others.

Dr. Skorek is a man of enthusiasm, which provides him the capacity for charismatic leadership. This is perhaps demonstrated in his appointment as Head of his department and also as Chair of the Canadian Heads of Electrical Engineering Departments but it is confirmed by his success in establishing and leading the Industrial Electroheat Laboratory at his university and launching a series of international conferences in Parallel Computing in Electrical Engineering. This biennial `”PARALEC “ conference has been held three times since 1998.

Dr Skorek’s enthusiasm for his profession is also demonstrated by his volunteer activities in support of IEEE Canada for the past ten years. In these ten years he has averaged 3 volunteer activities in the IEEE per year. For this gifted researcher and teacher the EIC recognizes him as Fellow of the Engineering Institute of Canada

Ladies and Gentlemen and Mr. President, we present –Dr. Adam Skorek
