EIC FELLOW  (2005)

Das

Dr. Sunil R. Das – nominated by the IEEE Canada

Dr. Sunil Das received his Bachelors, Masters and Doctorate degrees from the University of Calcutta and then joined the University of Ottawa as a postdoctoral Fellow on leave from the University< of Calcutta. Following his return to India and then from visiting positions in Taiwan, he joined the University of Ottawa in the newly established Computer Engineering option of the Electrical department. After a distinguish career at the University of Ottawa he retired in 2002 and was appointed Professor Emeritus. He is now also Professor in the department of Computer and Information Science at Troy State University in Montgomery Alabama. He is well known for his outstanding contributions I switching theory and digital design research, wherehe is recognized as a world expert. He is a pioneer in micro-architecture and micro-programming optimization research. He has also made significant contributions in fault-tolerant computing, and in graph theory and combinations.

The increasing complexity and size of today’s digital circuits has made the problem of testing such circuits and systems increasingly important. Dr Das’ work has greatly improved the older, traditional techniques that reduce the time and space required, and by providing heuristics that improve the coverage of testing techniques. As part of this, his original research in micrograms optimization using switching theory forms current textbook material that is taught at Canadian, US and other international universities.

Dr. Das has published more that 200 research works including books, and has received major awards and professional recognition from his peers This included the prestigious IEEE Donald Fink Prize paper of 2003. He is currently a Fellow of the IEEE and of the Academy

Tonight we honour Professor Das for his exceptional contributions to Canadian Engineering research and education, by recognition as Fellow of the Engineering Institute of Canada.

Madam President- Professor Sunil R. Das
