Quality Providers Program: The Engineering Institute of Canada

The EIC recognizes Quality Providers of continuing education to the engineering community after assessing the provider’s learning development and delivery processes and authorizing them to award EIC continuing education units, the “EIC CEU" for eligible training activities.

The purpose of the EIC Continuing Education Recognition Program is to help engineering professionals identify quality providers of CEUs and to facilitate their record keeping when activities occur with various providers across Canada. This is increasingly important as most licensing bodies have adopted explicit professional development requirements as a licensing condition.

The EIC-CEU is defined as “ten hours of participation in a continuing education program organised in compliance with prescribed EIC Standards under responsible sponsorship, capable direction, and qualified instruction”. These CEUs carry significant credibility among the engineering community and are accepted by most NA organisations as valid a demonstration of continuing education activities.

Public and private providers of continuing education programs may join the EIC program as Participating Partners by contacting the EIC at ggosselin.eic@gmail.com. Recognition by the EIC will allow the Participating Partner to use the EIC logo and to award their trainees CEUs that comply with EIC standards modeled on international best practices.

It is recommended that engineering professionals register their continuing education achievements in the EIC CEU Registry. Quality Providers have agreed to do so on behalf of eligible trainees if trainees provides such permission. The EIC will keep the trainee information confidential and will provide each individual trainee with a transcript of their recorded activity upon request.

A Power point presentation explaining the program can be downloaded.

Policy guidelines for EIC's Continuing Education Recognition Program are available here: "English Guidelines". « Cliquez ici pour le texte français : Directives ».

Single event providers may also apply for permission to award EIC CEUs for their events by completing an application form.

Information on courses that earn CEUs is available directly from the recognized providers by clicking on the logos that are presented below. This list includes links to universities, institutions, companies and engineering society members of the EIC that engage in learning activities in compliance with EIC Standards.

Single Event Providers

Course providers not partnered with EIC may apply to have a single event approved for Continuing Education Units (CEUs) by submitting the CEU Course Approval Form. Approval of a single event by the EIC permits the use of the EIC logo, registry and course certificates.

To make an application, complete the CEU Approval Application Form, save it to your disc and email it to ggosselin.eic@gmail.com

EIC standards for continuing education include both process and technical content considerations. The EIC’s member societies provide the technical expertise for verifying the qualifications of the instructors and the technical content of a learning activity.

The EIC administers a Course Participant Survey to randomly selected participants of completed continuing education programs. The results of these surveys are confidential and are shared with the provider.
